My first time going to any type of med spa was when I received laser hair removal at the training facility. The instructor explained the process and expected results.

I have already booked my next area.

The Medspa is welcoming and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend the National Laser Institute.

Sharing my experience

I LOVE National Laser Institute. I have been going to NLI for years now and all of their team are very knowledgeable.

I've always booked my appointments in the school and the instructors are AMAZING!!! Talk about exceptional customer service and expertise at National Laser Institute. My favorite service is the eMatrix Skin Rejuvenation treatment. I have seen improvement in my skin's texture and a lot of my hyperpigmentation has reduced.

I've recommended NLI to all of my family and friends because their service is excellent and the laser machines are top-notch.

From the moment I step into their beautiful location to the moment I get into a room, it's such a pleasant experience. NLI is a rare find, simply the best medspa in Arizona, hands down.

Not given what I booked appointment for

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went to the location at the Marriott hotel in Oakbrook, IL. I felt that the process& instructor were misleading & uninformative.

Overall 2/10 experience. The students were friendly on a personal level but communication was poor. During initial contact from the program it was in regards to strictly receiving Botox. I was asked my areas of concern, which i told them were mainly around my eyes &smile lines.

The service was to be administered by students in training, leading to a rate of $8.95 per unit. This information (price&service) was again confirmed to me during my medical video call. No other products or services were discussed or mentioned to be offered as alternatives. When I arrived to the appointment check in was easy &quick.

After entering the room the students began to inspect my face telling the instructor what they thought i needed. From the beginning they were hesitant to say what i needed because they were all joking that i didn't need anything. Eventually the instructor joined the conversation &agreed that not much really needed to be done. And i was told that I couldn't get Botox.

I asked if she was sure i didn't need it, and she said yes. I was bummed as I had been looking forward to starting it as a preventative measure. She asked how old i was, & after I answered the entire group was saying things like "you're still so young. Wait until you're my age.

Come back in 10 years." The instructor walked back to the counter to begin filling out some other paperwork. Over her shoulder she said they'll do something called restylane in my smiles lines, but not Botox, even thought they were "minimal". I asked what the difference was &the students answered that this would just fill out the muscle instead of freezing it. I said OK ignorant to the fact it was a complete different category of product.

The instructor then said that it would be 449. Just like that. She didn't say dollars, or even four hundred and forty-nine, so I thought it was $4.49 [per unit]. Similar to the pricing structure of the Botox I originally booked the appointment for &again during my video call.

It wasn't until the very end where i was handed a half sheet of paper where i saw the actual price of the product i received. Extremely misleading. I would have rather just been completely turned away and received nothing than to have paid so much for something that i didn't need. As the instructor was supervising the students doing the injecting, she kept repeating, "not too much.

keep it superficial. Her lines are minimal." Even after they were done injecting one of the students asked if they needed to massage the area and the instructor said no because they put so little in there it would mess it up. Poor integrity to refuse me Botox if their reason was my face doesn't need anything, but they were somehow OK with &willing to administer the more expensive filler that they said i also "didn't need". It feels to me like maybe the instructor just wanted to give the students a chance to inject something new.

I will not be recommending these services to anyone under 50 (if at all) in hopes of preventing them from wasting money like I did. I let a week pass as that is how long it took for the swelling &bruise to go away, and now I can see that my smile lines look absolutely no different. They were definitely all about money. Thought I was getting a good deal for being a live model for the students, but ended up spending 4 times more than expected for nothing.

Truly disheartening." Company still sending me offers and "special pricing" services with no regard to my complaints. It is clear to me that your company only cares about money over results, experience, and the well-being and relationships with their clientele.

Recent graduate

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was a graduate of 2016, It was a total waste of money and they are not transparent nor do they care about students so 7k later just be told in fact you have to be a registered nurse, not just a esthetican is a lot of money! A complete Scam then to be leaving thinking youre going to be able to find a wonderful career was crushing on the soul.

All for nothing do your research please as Im not the Only person this has Happen too! There are many other people who have been thru this same problem!!! Find the reviews on students that were not being pushed or pressured into the exit interview as we had to finish before we actually completed the course about how wonderful the school was which was very unethical. Oh why cant anyone have the same price quote?

Ive been told by students who actually spent 10k or more on the same course. its been reported to The Better Business Bureau. So the problem is what was told was false and misleading information about your qualifications then several years later the same school tried to collect debt after the statute of limitation and after third-party leaders when the account has been closed That is illegal! I have made claims through the Federal trade Commission.

All I can suggest is please research because when you have to pay for your education and you get scammed on this level especially years later on your credit report. Its not a fun Situation to go through and still have nothing of educational Value to show!

Everything negative you hear about this school is true! Youre just going to waste money your time just to get certificates and a license you wont be able use in the workplace.

Book early to get the treatment you want

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I called to book an appt with the Fraxel laser. The girl said they weren't bringing it to Oakbrook.

She recommended I get Ematrix. I went for the Ematrix and a girl sitting next to me said she was getting Fraxel and loved it! I asked are you sure? I was told they weren't bringing it!

I then thought maybe I misunderstood and there were no openings available. After my ematrix treatment I called back to see what else was available and they said they still had openings for two Fraxel treatments! I was so disappointed since the Ematrix has shown no improvement in my fine lines above my lip and brown spots nor has it tightened or improved the scar on my face.

When Amerilaser gave me a fraxel treatment I noticed results after one week!! It was so dramatic I was so happy!

I went to NLI this past March (2021) and I was somewhat pleased with it when i was there. I had asked the lady i was dealing with through admissions if i would be okay to operate a laser in my state upon graduation (i dont live in texas) she reassured me numerous times that i would be fine.

finding out now my certification is useless where i live and everything i did in texas does me no good now. i wasted $10,000 loan on a course that ill be paying off for a while and i now have to enroll in a course here that will cost me $12,000 for 38 weeks

National Laser Institute - 9k rip off

I spent about 9,000.00 to have a lot of corrective work done in the Med Spa center in Dallas. The technician Kierney, ruined everything that had been done, by giving me another laser too soon after pdo threads were done. The owner refuses to give a refund or correct the issues as he had promised to do.

They have gone thru 4or5 managers in 1yr so obviously there are issues there.

Next step will be filing a lawsuit against them. I have all of my documentation and before and after photos

I tried to advise staff and the owner that I will be filing a lawsuit of there is no refund given as I refuse to have the work done there now.

I would never trust them to do a good job after I tried for over a Year.

Their "hybrid" online laser course is a complete rip off. The owner Louis is clearly a shyster- only caring about your money.

Good luck trying to reach your adviser or Louis the man himself; they barely respond to emails or calls after they hooked you into enrollment. If you want to truly learn to do laser procedures do yourself a favor and spend your money at a reputable school where they are about you as an individual and preparing you properly and ethically for employment.

I developed Herpes Zoster from getting Botox a this place. I had no idea what was going on.

I saw the nurse there and she treated me like crap. After a year, Im still getting blisters. The CEO told me it was acne and it would go away. I finally decided to do deep research.

I am scared to death. Zoster(shingles from the chicken pox virus) can cause blindness! I saw my dermatologist and she was blown away. Finally, I saw my MD and he put me on an intensive treatment of Valtrex.

I had to see and Ophthalmologist, because it was affecting my vision. Im currently on meds.

The physician said they should warn that this can happen and they can pretreat you for this. Im terrified!!

Very Unethical Company: Little to No Results, Bait and Switch, False advertisement

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Sep 18, 2019

As of today, I still have not heard back from National Laser. However, I did dispute the charge with my credit card company, and as of today, National Laser Institute has not responded to my credit card company, so I still have a temporary credit on my charge card.

Original review Aug 07, 2019
I had never had any fillers prior to going to National Laser, so of course, I don't know the difference between, Botox, filler, etc. except for what they told me, which is Botox is for the forehead, filler is (Restylane, and Juvaderm), and this could be used throughout the face.

My first visit was in June, and there was a little improvement in my lip filler (Juvaderm Plus). So, I went ahead and booked an appointment for my laugh lines because I had received and email that the filler was half price 249/per syringe. Both the salesperson Jamie and the dermatologist told me that they could treat my laugh lines, Jaime said that when I booked, and the dermatologist personally came out to the lobby and said she could do it as she numbed my entire laugh lines, but said she wanted to numb my lips too, in the event that I have excess product. Once in her chair, she used the old 'bait and switch' tactics, she said she could only treat the bottom part of my laugh lines because the top was out of the scope of her interns knowledge.

She told me that she had one syringe called Restylane, which this is the first I had heard of the product, which she endorsed as the best product for my laugh lines (bottom) and lips. She told me it was $499.00; however. The entire time she was talking to her students, and she told them, now half way through I'm going to give her a mirror so I can treat the areas of her concern, which she never did. I was wondering why she was solely focusing around my lips, as it hurt like *** and left massive bruising.

She gave me the mirror at the end and asked what I think and I said the bottom of my laugh lines look untouched. She said to her students this never happens. I asked to speak with the office managers who started with a bunch of lies; including your product was already discounted (she charged me 499 for one syringe), all the alleged managers said give me your card, as you authorized the service, so its your fault. A few days later, I checked my email and it specifically said that both Restylane and Juvaderm were supposed to be 249 per syringe, so I did forward that to the spa manager Tracy Stockwell, who would never return my calls, but finally returned my email yesterday that said; there are two types of Restylane and you got the more expensive one, and because you caused such a scene in the lobby in front of other clients on the date of service, we are not willing to refund anything.

She then told her office staff to not take any further calls from me, that she would only answer my emails moving forward. I asked to speak with the owner, and one of the girls said, "really, if you can't speak with the spa manager, what makes you think you can speak to the owner, he is really hard to get a hold of and all we have is his email." Total fraud, either their product doesn't work, or they don't know how to apply it correctly, they use bait and switch tactics, and false advertisement, and their entire office staff is unethical.

To make matters worse they tried to charge me for an additional fee of $50, which they said was demo fee, but they did end up crediting that after a fight. I have reported them to the BBB, and AGs office.

Horrible company

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I figured I would go for botox because I would save some money and help some students out. Worst mistake ever!

Not only did they do an absolutely horrible job but the person giving me the shots told me I could get the job done by an actual surgeon for less. In addition, I was told by the "injector" that she thought the entire company was a scam as they promise you one thing as a student and give you far less than you paid for.

Bottom line, I wouldn't recommend them as a school and I cannot be more firm in suggesting you never get any work done here. The place is a scam.

Do NOT attend this school

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went to NLI in July of 2015 with big dreams of finding a new career. I was sold by the flashy show Louis puts on at his Open House.

Two major problems...first the school is NOT a school, I have a Masters degree in education and the curriculum and delivery is lacking. Also there is no pre test or post test to rule out candidates who should not be using a laser. The second problem is that it is completely misleading as to the true job opportunities that are available. The staff member who is assigned to be the job placement coordinator had zero job leads and couldn't even provide me with a list of places to apply to.

The truth of the matter is with little to no regulation in this industry this school will continue to take in money $12K with false promises of employment. I applied to over 40 places and couldn't find a job. I was rejected due to the fact that places wanted not only laser cert but also esthetician and at least 2 years experience. Plus the market is saturated in the Valley as the schools continue to produce "laser techs" without any pre/post exam.

Being a single parent with no employment in this area is devastating, total waste of my money. Wish there was some way to get it back.

I graduated in December 2020 I feel the exact same way except I spent way more because I came from another state to stay. Not only do they want you to be a licensed esthetician, they want several years experience, we were told to make a colorful resume with our pictures on it and the only way Louis would recommend you for a job if you had a great personality, he was not in the school do to covid and flipped out so our families heard everything on graduation zoom. My AZ license was returned for signatures that were to be filled out in school I now have to go through everything again I literally can do Nothing with this certificate alone!

One last thing I forgot to mention in my comment below. Aesthetic schools as a whole are concerned with teaching what is on the State board exams and teaching students exactly that.

No more, or less. There are many gray areas between Aestheticians scope of practice when on a staff with a doctor. IE-injectables, SkinPen, LHR. As of 2017 some of that was cleared up.

If you really want a career in Medical Aesthetics, do your homework. Laser tech/Aesthetician licensees are highly desired. If you’re a nurse and truly want to do Medical Aesthetics, get an Aesthetician license. Because a nurse is not trained solely on the histology of the skin, electricity, chemistry, I could list for days why.

The point is patients pay for an experienced provider with credibility.

It’s the same thing if you were a hairstylist. At the end of the day being pissed off because you’re experiencing the same saturation, costly education and general red tape as the rest of us, is kinda your own doing.

Guest

Ummm... News flash this is the Beauty Industry.

Education curriculum and testing will never be like a college or major university. Did you think the apprentice/tech/senior and Professional testing, clinical and classroom requirements were made up??? It’s ALL regulated by the DSHS, oh I forget TDLR recently took over DSHS LHR licensing(Nov 2017 to be exact). You’re absolutely 100% right, employers do want Laser techs to be Licensed Aestheticians.

Because Aestheticians are trained in-depth on the histology of the skin. Employers and patients are educated about qualifications to look for in a provider. I’ve been doing this work for 20 years-I’ve experienced a saturated market many times over as have ALL areas of this industry. Continuing education is a must, it also costs money.

Kinda like a getting Masters, MBA, PhD etc. EDUCATION is NEVER cheap. If you assume because you’re getting into the beauty industry the education will be easy compared to your previous schooling. I would suggest taking a look at why you made such assumptions.

I’d also advise you do your homework before assuming anything. Ever.

Dear Anonymous, my daughter is looking to attend National Laser Institute starting the week of 9/9 for a group of classes that will be taught & completed in less than 2 weeks @ a cost of approaching $10K. Should I be advising her to slow down & do a little bit more research on these kind of classes or is this a good alternative, assuming she's committed to being a serious student? Thanks, Concerned Dad (who will be cutting a check)

Im currently studying to become a esthetician and will graduate in june. Im looking to get certified in laser.

Now what ive come to learn is 600 hours your an esthetician at 1200 your a master esthetician which means you can use lasers chemicals etc. Its too bad these people are scamming people. In order to even put your hands on a client you must have a license. Esthetic or cosmetlogist you cant just take a class for 2 weeks and get a job unfortunately, without a license you cant.

If your interested in medspas esthetics is the way to go. Elizabeth grady has a 600 program that costs 8000 and catherine hines school has a 1200 program.

So after taking the 8 day course at NLI what do you get? I've been looking into it lately and I'm a bit confused.

How do you get licensed then? Damn they make it sound so good on the website and videos.

No service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The incompetents at National Laser Institute categorized my skin as Type 4 over the phone and refused a procedure, using this as an excuse. Then, told me that a consultation in person is needed and said the same thing.

Wasting a customer’s time is not a problem for NLI. The issue is, several doctors before, concluded that I have a skin Type 2-3. I don’t know the real motivation behind the refusal, however, incompetence (or deceit) was evident. To make matters worse, there was a complete lack of customer service skills.

Since they refused one service, they could have easily help the situation, by offering a “better suited” procedure.

Only a company with customer’s experience in mind would have initiated such an approach. It is obvious that NLI is not such a company.
